Republicans with the Whip Hand
By Bruce Karlson
Nancy “Frozen Face” Pelosi finally admitted that the odious “health reform bill” is dead.
This further demonstrates that she is both a liar and a fraud, given her recent prognostications to the contrary. She should be pleased that Democrat voters are not the least put off by lies, corruption, racism, sexism, or incompetence. Her re-election is assured.
To the point: After publicly, and one can be sure privately, dismissing Republicans as excess and unwanted baggage in both Houses, the Democrats must now turn to them as supplicants. To wit: the Obamites and Liberals need something, anything that might be construed as reform to pass before November. Conversely Republicans have been happily campaigning against the Democrat version of reform for months with obvious success.
Given that, Republicans would do well to put the screws to every Democrat possible by declining to participate unless the deck is stacked…their way. They should agree to nothing absent tort reform and an end to the self-serving prohibition against interstate sale of health insurance. Those two things alone will serve the interests of the nation and the party in several ways. Premium costs will be substantially reduced and more medical professionals will open up shop.
The pimps and whores (Does John Edwards come to mind?) at the trial bar will cease lavish funding of the Democrats and their political clout will be reduced, perhaps substantially. The cozy relationship between the insurance industry and the Democrats which created fiefdoms in various states will no longer pay off for either.
Small business and individuals in California or New York will now be able to consider a health insurance plan absent mandates, with concomitant higher premiums, for sex change, abortion, massage therapy, etc. Decisions will take a step in the right direction, putting responsibility and accountability closer to the user.
So the Democrats need something to pass and the Republicans prosper in the absence of passage. When the Democrats come knocking, Boehner, et al. must send them to the servants’ entrance, a purgatory of sorts. Let them stew and understand that, according to Michael Barone, only 103 of them are now in “safe districts”.
Scott Brown’s victory was not a canary in a coal mine, it was a soaring eagle! There is no doubt that Republicans need a robust and bold platform for the next “go rounds”. They must, however, first destroy the enemy that so recently threatened them and, more importantly, our nation. Sun Tsu’s dictum must not be forgotten, as this is war.
The Liberals only hope is that the Republicans will again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. One wishes to dismiss that as idle nonsense. Long suffering Republican/Conservatives, however, will be a less sanguine. Republican leadership could still manage to needlessly cede the field one more time.
God spare us if they do…
